Launch of first index measuring Thriving Places, beyond GDP



GDP is an in-adequate measure of success in a complex environment where people and planet need to thrive. We were asked to launch the most comprehensive analysis measuring whether local authorities are creating the conditions for people to thrive – based on multiple indicators including equality and sustainability.


Launched the Thriving Places Index identifying hotspots across the UK, to bring the data to life. Designed digital assets targeting economists, MPs and local authorities. and created a powerful narrative on the need for measurement beyond GDP.


Delivered a total of >50 features and 12 TV interviews with a combined reach of over 6.5 million.


Since launch, three local authorities have signed up to work with Happy City embedding the index, and Happy City have been invited to share findings at global conference.
